"Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded." ~ Abraham Lincoln Dec, 1840
Instead of reiterating the millions of good reasons why marijuana should be legalized (and taxed to everyone’s benefit) I figured I’d share today’s marijuana news stories with you. They’re some goodies!
The US system of categorizing and restricting access to narcotics places these substances into “Schedules". Each Schedule has its own set of rules - Schedule 1 drugs, for example, can not have any research done into them by the scientific or medical community as they are deemed (by the almighty US Government) to not have any medical use. Clearly this is a Federally legislated system of keeping the truth out of the debate over whether or not medical marijuana has any medicinal value. After all, how can you prove to the Government that something has medical value if the Government won’t let you do research into it.
Apparently today the AMA has decided to do what it should have done decades ago - they called bullshit on the Feds Schedule 1 classification of cannabis.
The Feds entire argument against medical marijuana has so far been based on their “opinion” that it has no medicinal value, because there are no scientific studies to say it does. How fucking convenient! The reason there’s no research that they will trust is because they don’t fund research into Schedule 1 drugs. And lets be honest here, there has been research and studies done by non-US Governments and private groups to study cannabis. Those studies have found time and time again that marijuana does have medicinal value. So what we have is a case of the US Government only listening to its own research - yet it isn’t doing any research because its afraid of what it may find, so it conveniently leaves cannabis in Schedule 1. Presumably, until now - as long as the AMA keeps up the pressure and gets it reclassified. Good luck AMA - you have my support.
In fact anyone who reads this should write a letter to the AMA and let them know you fully support their request to the Obama administration.
One step closer to repealing cannabis prohibition - sweet!
To my surprise CNN has done a decent job of discussing the medical marijuana issue.
Last weekend I captured this one hour special and despite having the usual prohibitionist douche bags propping up prohibition CNN was able to present the opposing view in a favorable light.
Does anyone actually believe the prohibitionist position on medical marijuana anymore? They are so out of touch with the facts that they can’t be taken serisously anymore, can they? You be the judge…
